How to get chicks
CreativeBits has an interesting little piece on image manipulation from the terminal using sips. Pretty cool stuff (at least for lighter-than-light hackers like myself), but what really hit the spot was the claim that you could use this exact technique to pull: Now, that I told you about this command, you tell me what can you use it for, besides getting chicks of course? Snapshot
Sitting at the local cafe, doing my morning routine, pouring coffee into my system, catching up on mail and news. Two brewery delivery guys have just finished loading whatever these guys load — now they’re both enjoying a pint of lager. Continue reading
Mom serving up the broadband.
It was so reminiscent of and seemed the always-on era counterpart to those photos you find in “feel-good-50s” calendars… you know, the ones of smiling families gathered around the dinner table, Mom serving up her famous apple pie. Continue reading
Tubemap tattoo
From the excellent London Underground Tube Diary, an excellent weblog about the underground transport in the city you gotta love: download shaolin film All you can do is to hope it’s either fake or not permanent.
Kerry is a Mac user
What d’ya know, Kerry is working from a Powerbook. Continue reading
Making money on content
Whatever the revenue model, I’m glad that people are starting to realize that with weblogs and other forms of web based writing, even though much have changed, the good writers offering relevant and interesting material will always come out on top.… People with love to the medium and a non-profit approach will always exist and as long as they feel they learn something, can get their funding from somewhere else or just feel like making a difference, good, free stuff will be out there. Creative Bits on your Mac
Just the kind of site I like: Macs, creative tools, tips and trick Thanks to Damien Barrett for pointing out the relatively new Creative Bits site, with its interesting focus on creative applications for Mac OS X. Continue reading
London screensaver — and crappy phones
3650anda12inch.blogspot.com points to a beautiful screensaver featuring black and white images from what also happens to be my favourite city, London. Continue reading
Hammersmith biking
Yet another reason to love Hammersmith: The OYBike System is a street-based rental station network that allows you to hire and return a bicycle 24/7 via your mobile phone. The OYBike system is based on the availability of rental bicycles at key locations. Continue reading
WiFi and holes
I like the fact that even on days with shitloads of work, I’m still able to go out, faking having a life.… But that also means that I carry around basically all my work with me — and I don’t really like the idea of having it stolen while I’m at the little boys room or ordering more espressos. Continue reading
Headphones
They’re comfortable, having them on a full day won’t hurt your head and as they’re made for monitoring your next track while cutting it up, the cups can be twisted in both directions which is actually quite practical when you don’t want to be completely out of reach but still want to have your iTunes collection running.… (This entry is the first in the Stuff category, a category I’ve wanted to do for some time as all these things we use every day actually mean something, although I somehow would like them not to… Continue reading
Hiding optional form fields
Long and complicated forms can often slow down the progress through a web site and in the case of e-commerce, can seriously hinder the sales process.… I would love having this option — on the other hand, I’d love a well laid out form grouping the required fields at the beginning of the page just as much. Continue reading
Aggregators and blogging tools
I bloglines Bloglines has redesigned, and added some more functionality. It has replaced NetNewsWire as my RSS reader of choice, mainly due to speed reasons (NNW couldn’t cope with my 500ish feeds), and the fact I need access on several computers (and not just Mac OS). Continue reading
GMO shopping
Afternoon snapshot: While taking a walk at the harbour, a German guy with a huge tray of strawberries is leaning over the side of his ship shouting “Genmodifizierter Erdbeeren?!” at passerbys… Continue reading
