iPod recording

Found this iPoding.com post: Unofficial confirmation from Apple employee regarding recording via Richard Giles earlier today. Good news if true (has to be…!). Had some trouble accessing the site due to heavy traffic — have patience…

The music, the music

Went to see Moi Caprice the other night at Vega. They played a tight set — go see for yourself sometime. And while performing a random act of procrastination, I noticed a Cause4Concern gig at Stengade 30 announced at junglist.dk. Haven’t been clubbing for ages, gotta go! (saw C4C at Roskilde a couple of years ago — I definately recommend it) And HomeBrew just announced Wonderful Copenhagen — Clubbinhagen, a festival starting at the end of July this summer. Good news it is…

More OSX endeavours

Still working from a PowerBook, I get to install new software now and again. iTunes4 is nice, the MusicStore is pretty well layed out and importing some cds to accompany me while working here and there is so damn simple. I like it! Just installed Hydra which is looking clever. Only problem is: I don’t really know anyone using Mac with whom I work with regularly on projects where Hydra could come in handy. Maybe someone at Arena wants to play… The founding meeting last wednesday was great energy, and I’m really looking forward to take part in the experiment. Normally, I would have made links of the different pieces of software just mentioned, but for some reason the little format toolbar isn’t there in Safari…

New Ipods

The new iPods are here. It all loooks nice, but where is the mic option I expected? Having the ability to record personal notes, make interviews etc. would make the MiniDisk completely obsolete — now this feature is still something you have to take into consideration. Damn. Hope I just misread the information on the site…

Get in the arena

Arena is happening now! Nice, shared office space next to the lovely lakes of copenhagen — and a mission. Keywords are (or could be — Arena is what we make it!): Sharing, generousity, room for thought, innovation, a hub… Add to the list yourself. Founding meeting, Wednesday the 30th of April (site’s in danish). See you there.

CleverCactus — New PIM

CleverCactus, a new PIM, is now in beta. The need for a decent way of organizing the different types of organization we handle every day is definately there… I’ll be looking forward to the full-featured releases of CleverCactus, Chandler and the Mozilla Calender.

Converting to Mac

I’ve been playing with a PowerBook for about a day now, and while most programs (office tools, graphic software, browsers and mail clients etc.) basically are the same on both platforms (usually I’m on PC), some of all the tools that make life good doesn’t exist in cross platform versions. But, hey — that’s what make converting a good thing, getting to try out some of the software Mac users talk about. I solved my Jabbing (?!) by installing PSI on both machines. I haven’t really figured out whether it’s any better or worse than Exodus, but at least they’re the same. BBedit is going to take some getting-used-to — the lack of PC style tool bars feels funny — but I’ll definately give it a try. If I understand things correctly, everybody’s using it. Haven’t checked out the FTP functionality though, so when I found myself needing to download a lot of files this morning, I found Captain FTP. It’s freeware and besides the tacky identity they’ve got going, its like most other FTP clients, so that’s probably fine. Importing my subscriptions exported from SharpReader into NetNewsWire proved to cause the most trouble. As it turns out, their OPML isn’t exactly the same, so it took some search-and-replace (using BBedit, of course) to get NetNewsWire to accept the import. Didn’t bother to find out exacly what caused it, though.

But everyhing else is running smoothly and the OS X is a treat. Nice to experience a less technical approach to computing, and visually it’s just more slick… I look forward to try out some of the Mac-only software out there, that I haven’t had a chance to try out yet (already found some stuff in my own coding that make Safari fuck up even though it renders fine in all other browsers) and learning those little tricks that make everything easier.

Recommandations on must-haves as well as tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated.

The future of Trackbacks

Phil Ringnalda has a good piece on autodiscovery and trackbacks: Autodiscovery and the death of TrackBack. Bottom line: Not all trackbacks are of equal value to the readers. This post for example would normally automatically trigger a link-up on Phil’s blog. This post, however, doesn’t add any real value to his post, but is intended to lead readers of this blog to his. And posting this through MT actually allowed me to untick the box pinging his entry. So I did…

Update: For some reason the un-ticking didn’t work, so basically, I have just pinged a post about wishing not to be pinged… Damnit…

Dogs — meaningless?

A dog is a meaningless animal…that has no soul” [via andrea’s photo blog]. A bit harsh, if you ask me. In all fairness you have to remember, that the dog — together with a four wheel drive — is all you need to enter the “Event bureau”-business… And hey, the Geezer doggie has a little soul in there… This gentleman just configured a Mac with a setup just a tad more fresh for me, though — thanx :)

Plug In Baby

Testing various plug-ins:
– The Blogging plug-in for w.bloggar by Microsoft. Seems to work fine, though it doesn’t catch embedded players (and I don’t use Mediaplayer all that much). Just need to update my style sheet to include a media class, and I’ll be able to post what’s in my ears… By the way: Why does Microsoft always name their little tools “Fun Pack” etc.?
– The BlogThisUrl for SharpReader. Works like a charm — I have to look into how to use the default settings when posting, though.

And then I’m trying to get my Jabber client, Exodus, to use SSL with the provided dll’s, but that, of course, isn’t a plug-in…

Software

Typing this using the new w.bloggar 3.01 which now features the use of a Windows Mediaplayer plugin that I’ll try to test sometime soon. Yeterday I found Chandler [via Russell Beattie Notebook] — a small personal information manager

. It’s still in early alpha and pretty useless so far, but looks interesting and features some sort of integration with your Jabber roster. Being a recent Jabber convert, this is interesting (oh, Russell Beattie has comments on that as well, though the permalink seems broken at this time). Also following “Wanted: Better IMAP for Windows” post via Lazyweb as I’ve decided to quit using Outlook. I’m currently giving Mozilla ago… Dropping Outlook means being without a calender app too, so so far I’m stuck with PalmDesktop. Any recommendations on email clients and calender apps would be gratly appreciated.

Blogrolling with SharpReader

After switching to the wonderful SharpReader (just out in ver. 0.9.0.1) I’ve ben trying to organize my subscriptions a bit. Still some way to go, trying to figure out what categories make the most sense on a daily basis, but I’ll get there :) Anyway, the OPML subscription list being outputted by SharpReader is a bit different than the previous one because of the categories, so I made some adjustments to the XSL sheet. As I’m not particularly proud of my categories (the largest one being ‘unsorted’), I’m not reflecting them directly in the blogroll just yet, just as I haven’t done anything to sort them in any way clever, but the edited XSL sheet is of course yours to grab anyway. I’m still using the MSXML for the transormation as the server hosting pollas.dk still hasn’t got Sablotron. Looking forward to a new server somewhere ahead…
