The end of the agency
Digital Web Magazine: End of the AgencyOf the 100 some companies and web agencies (companies that build web sites, if you don’t like the term ‘agency’) I know, I’d say about 1/2 of them are really just groups of freelancers working together to produce beautiful inspiring designs with innovative functionality. The age of the web agency is ending.Yup, that’s how it is. Continue reading

Aaaand I’m back up
Greetings. I’ve been away for a good month now, not on purpose though. The server hosting this blog started crashing whenver I tried to post something. First trackback spam got to it, then when posting, it would save the post … Continue reading
Umbraco 2.0
Umbraco 2.0 is out — go download! Hartvig and Bumbech put in some great work and Umbraco is now better than ever. Continue reading
Transmit / Textmate
Transmit 3 is out and now supports Textmate which is worth the $18 upgrade alone. Yay.
IE7
So, Microsoft apparantly — almost by themselves — figured out that waiting for Longhorn won’t cut it; IE7 is coming.… And while important, that part mostly has to do with not having done a decent job in the first place, not committing to delivering a product that support web standards properly. Continue reading

CampaignMonitor
Live from Cafe Lucca, Kolding: My recommendations for CampaignMonitor. One of my clients wanted to start sending out newsletters, 4–6 every year, showcasing their work and products. Continue reading

@media 2005
Good stuff: A nice conference featuring good speakers, a relevant focus (to people like me) and it’s not that far away.… Other Danes are contemplating a regular outing (via k9k) — sounds good.

Blog redesign, episode 10
Haven’t had time to tinker with the new blog design for some time now, but upon yesterday’s discovery of Favatars, it was a pleasant surprise to fin a Favicon MT-plugin over at Gemal’s today.… On a related note, I recently put in a captcha-test on the comment pages; I’ve been hit hard by comment spammers lately — they made a big mess and my host started sending worried emails.
Congratulations, Microsoft
You’ve successfully made the worst possible browser on the market the most popular, turning normal people into slaves and web development into a painful game of “let’s see if we can find some way out of having to throw in tons of stupid, little IE-hacks instead of spending time on real development”. On some projects, I think I spend about the same amount of time adjusting my orginal design for the IE users (aka ‘the real audience’), making designing a lot less fun and figuring out what to charge the client a big fat joke.

Painting yourself into corners when making websites
Interesting discussion over at The Autistic Cuckoo on whether you paint yourself into a corner by starting with the semantics when building a new site or not — or if you risk the exact same by diving straight into Photoshop; One Way to Design a Web Site.… I can’t say I lean towards either side, however I really only have one focus: To keep out of the corners while settling on the best architecture possible; if you start coding to deal with information architecture, fine — if you start sketching to deal with communication and getting the message across, that’s fine too.

Blog redesign, episode 9
A few minor improvements: The category ‘Bla bla’ is now called ‘Misc.’ — highly original, I know. My latest del.icio.us bookmarks have taken the place of the sidebar (which got included in the main post area). The thought behind this divide … Continue reading

TextMate: The Missing Editor for OS X — it’s finally here. Today is official “try and see if you can test drive this thing even though you don’t really need to code today”-day.
Blog redesign, episode 8
I’ve put in the WordCount plugin to display a word count on the date based archive pages. Upload the plugin, use the new tag. Continue reading
Blog redesign, episode 7
Yet another useful plugin: Compare. It allows you to do those simple little comparisons; did you make the comment, is the category ‘Tech’ etc. So I’ve prepared my Stuff category for some additional styling and the comments for displaying whether I participated or not. Continue reading

Blog redesign, episode 6
I’ve installed the Acronym plugin which takes care of underlining and explaining and started listing the plugins I use at the bottom of the Colophon page. And I’ve merged my sideblog into the main index so the little link blurps just show up in their own slightly different design (to be optimized shortly) in between the regular posts. Continue reading

Think I managed to install the updated MT-Blacklist. I’ve just been through all comments to remove some of the spam that slipped through while the plugin was down (we have the same host) and a few others that somehow found … Continue reading
Blog redesign, episode 3
I’ve renamed the moblog to ‘camblog’ (thoughts on that here), changed templates accordingly and put a redirect line in my .htaccess file which will hopefully keep the thousands of subscribers to my very important image feed.… However, I did remove some stuff from the sidebar; various links not updated for ages, my blogroll (weblogs from my old Bloglines-account) and searches and referers (sic!)
Blog redesign, episode 1
As expected this took some time, but here we go; a blog redesign wish list / to do list. Listed in no particular order, here are some of the things I miss and some of the things I would just really like to do better…and variuos tech-sih stuff I just wanna play with.
Blog redesign, prologue
Blog redesign is all the rage these days. It always is due to the playful, geeky nature of the web — and blogs in particular for some reason — but the past month seems to be just a bit more intense. Continue reading
