Skammens Vogn: Bob

Watch the video

Skammens Vogn in their second music-to-sport event: Bob. At LiteraturHaus, a former church, they did a two-hour set while people competed in the classic game bob.

It was a fabulous party; live music not stealing attention from the party itself but providing an intelligent backdrop. Great gesture.

Photos from their previous party, table tennis, at Flickr.

Check out some other projects at the label Lolita Industri — updates coming up…

Urbanblog.dk

Yesterday Urbanblog.dk launched. It’s a collaboration between Urban and Blogtid which originally started as an alternative to Avistid, then despite good intentions went a bit dead and now serve as the platform from which Angermann, ¸tter, Balslev and myself work on the urbanblog project. We still plan on supplying views on traditional media entering a new era using social media with posts from clever people working in the field. For the past months, however, we’ve been busy building a WordPress MU–powered blog for Urban’s readers to play with.

Disclaimer first: We’ve swallowed the beta pill, meaning that we still fiddle with various parts of the site. We’ve got some things to improve and a few little features up our sleeves, but wanted to let people in and see what they came up with. We figured that we knew what had to be done, but that Urban’s new bloggers knew in particular.

So far it seems the site will be pretty lively; there’s a lot going on already — supporting our feeling that if you provide context (it’s about context providing, not content providing!), stories and thoughts will emerge.

These are just some of them:

I can’t wait to see what people will do. So many things going on, so many stories waiting to be told. I’m sitting at a cafe, next to a guy reading Urban — I have the feeling he’s only getting half.…

Update: Jesper Balslev posts his thoughts (in Danish), outlining the proces.

Berlin, Berlin

Watch the video
A little something from five days in Berlin. Transportation, noise, different energy levels, pulse and relaxation, diesel and areas of green — and the depraved thing that is German television. Didn’t shoot enough footage and had problems with television sound. Didn’t have time to do more precise movie– and sound editing which among other things hurt the rhytm… Anyway.…

[DK] Fritz Lang’s “M”

M stÃ¥r muligvis for ¶rder, men det stÃ¥r ogsÃ¥ for Must see.

While catching breakfast at Kreuzberg hangout Morena, I wanted to use my laptop…online. But connecting to the AP didn’t work, I just got an error saying that I well, couldn’t… Which is not very helpful at all.

Everyone I talked to were online with no trouble at all and gave me the password. That’s when it dawned on me: I wasn’t prompted for one, so maybe it was saving the password from last time I was here.

Correct. They changed the password, but for some reason OS X didn’t think it was important to prompt me for a new one once the saved one failed. I had to go to my keychain, delete the entry for Morena and try again, this time allowed to punch in the new password. Success.

Seriously, why does it have to be so hard? Password doesn’t work? Ask for another one. Don’t just go “sorry, bad luck” on me…

New design

As those of you who actually browse sites will already know, I’m doing some design adjustments to this site.

I wanted to cut things a little sharper, clean up the sidebar, widen the blog post area to bump up the font size and see if I could get over my fear of color. Features include leather and a color scheme that would make John Deere proud.

I’m nowhere near being done with it, but it’s starting to take shape. I still need to style the different sections, clean up the code and make sure everything is aligned and adjusted.

Apart from the photostream and links to various involvements that are moved to the footer, everything is pretty much the same as before. But if you find something broken, please let me know…

Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 AW

Time for another bag review, this time the Lowepro Stealth Reporter D300 AW.

lowepro d300 aw

I don’t know a lot about camera bags, but Lowepro is well known for their quality and I’ve only had good experiences using their bags. They’re rugged, well equipped and divided properly with easy access.

This one is quite soft, therefore comfortable to wear with a big, padded part against the back. It holds a single body and between three and four lenses or a couple of lenses and a flash. I’ve successfully loaded a DSLR with a mounted lens, a tele lens, a small DV-camcorder, a mini tripod and a Speedlight — and some cables, filters etc. Basically all I need… It gets quite heavy, but the shoulder strap is reasonably padded.

In case of bad weather, its All Weather Cover keeps the rain out. Relatively easy to operate, although it makes it a bit difficult getting to your gear. During daily use, a zipper across the top gives you access to the camera in the middle of the bag without the need to actually having to open it.

There are all the usual pockets and a few places to drop a book, a map or something like that. And here’s the thing: Though officially not a laptop/camera-bag, a 12″ Powerbook fits perfectly in the big pocket at the back of the bag, making it the perfect companion for a day out. It obviously takes up some of the space, but a DSLR, a Powerbook, a DV-cam and a charger, some cables, a set of headphones and a book easily fits. You don’t want to carry that around all day, it’s heavy as hell, but compared to carrying two bags all day…

Good enough, I ved…

Video comparison

Madsen, daily provider of brilliant online music and video stuff, has made a comparison of Elastica’s ‘Waking Up’ and and The Stranglers ‘No more heroes’; Elastica — “Waking Up” (Live 1995).

I won’t go into the argument (he’s right), just note three or four things:

Elastica is great. The Stranglers are great. And Madsen is great for reminding me.

And: YouTube is pretty damn great as well. These videos are probably copyrighted and what have we. But when the copyright holders can’t figure out a way to allow for commentary and remixing themselves, the public takes over. Stuff that you couldn’t get your hands on before now shows up, get picked up by blogs and portals for everybody’s viewing pleasure. I wouldn’t be surprised if a 10-minute clip from, say, Convoy caused a rise in DVD sales.

Guys, you’ve tried so hard to become a part of our lives, of our cultural history while taking our cash. Which is fair. Now, just let us treat your material the way we want to: As a part of our own history with the right to play, quote, refer etc. in whatever form technology allows us to.

(I know, nobody probably want to sue anyone for the two clips mentioned, but it’s the principle…)

Mikkel Metal @ berghain

Checking out what’s going on in Berlin this weekend music-wise, I discovered that Mikkel Metal is playing live at berghain Friday 12th.

Which just reminded me to recommend his new album Victimizer(nice cover, too) — it’s brilliant! It’s out on Kompakt. He has previously released a lot of 12“s on echochord…which you should listen to as well.

Conversation conference

The day before reboot (making that particular week jam-packed with web goodness), Social Square is hosting a conference entitled Samtalerne (conversations).

It’s a local event, focusing on social media, supported by the community. Trine-Maria has more information in Danish.

I’ll participate — and I’m curious about the ‘conversation’ frame as I’ve been spending quite some time thinking about the various ways we’re defining what we do with social media. More about that later.

Schmap: Morena, Berlin

I’ve being rewarded a free copy, only usable on a PC running Windows XP. Yay.

Update: Found my PCSchmap looks like this.

Berlin hotel recommendations?

I’m thinking of getting away for a few days, preferably to somewhere well-known and cheap. To work on my own projects, catch up on a few things, play with some cameras, read and write.

Plain tickets are dirt cheap, but I’m looking for a hotel with wifi. Either you get the big chains; boring with pay-by-the-hour wifi — or they don’t write if they got wifi or not.

Any recommendation on hotels in Mitte, Kreuzberg or Prenzlauerberg with wifi that won’t cost me a fortune, will be much appreciated!

Photosharing syndrome

Inspired by a talk with Jon Froda on using ‘sleeping’ theories as a possible way to inject different thinking into what is believed to be common knowledge and theory practice when working with social media, I’m suggesting taking a look at what could be called ‘photosharing syndrome’.

It’s a way of describing the relation of power between a photographer and the person depicted.

From Wikipedia on the Stockholm syndrome:

[…] the tendency might well be the result of employing the strategy evolved by newborn babies to form an emotional attachment to the nearest powerful adult in order to maximize the probability that this adult will enable — at the very least — the survival of the child, if not also prove to be a good parental figure

Or in other words, you form a Stockholm syndrome-like relationship with the person who just posted your picture on the web. You think it’s horrible, that you look insane and that it actually is a bit unfair. On the other hand, you instinctively recognize the fear of not knowing what this person will do next. You might as well bond with the photographer or things could get even worse…

Sticker marketing

I’ve been sporting a denkreativeklasse.dk sticker on my laptop for some months now. The site had its 15 days of fame, but I still get a signup once in a while. Most people don’t take the questions seriously (and they shouldn’t) so I have no idea who they are.

Until now.

I’m in a cafe drinking my coffe, checking emails. The guy next to me just asked if I made the site cause he had seen the sticker and taken the test, unfortunaly scoring low as he didn’t drive an old car or drink his coffee with milk.

Just to let you know that sticker marketing still works.

He suggested I made a price index for the book (that coined the term and that nobody read), as he’d noticed quite a difference in price in the book shops downtown. I suggest we continue to not read the book and just pretend we know what we’re talking about while being the wannabe-creatives that we are…
